Letters to Venetia Stanley by H.H. Asquith
I read this coming back from IMS in Avignon by the TGV. Pretty pleasant way to pass the time.
I found this amazing, both the sadness of the older man infatuated with the much younger woman. Also the way he would tell her the most amazing secrets, eg ‘the germans sank three of our ships today, but this is top-secret don’t tell anyone’. Asquith comes out with some humanity, he visited a German POW camp, really to check on how they were.
