Postwar: A History of Europe Since 1945 by Tony Judt
I read this on a trip to Krakow, though I’ve read it before. It is brilliant: a great analysis of political, economic and social history. I remember the descriptions of the Soviet relations to Eastern Europe as an empire in reverse, raw materials going from the imperial centre and finished goods going in reverse. Also the descriptions of potential alterations in class structure were thought provoking.
