Into the Silence by Wade Davis
This is about Mallory and the conquest of Everest. I found it surprisingly readable. I say surprisingly because books about climbing mountains like Everest can be just a recital of which camps they made, by who and when.
I’ve travelled near to Everest (on the Nepal side) in the 70s, so I have some idea of the culture, and the book gave me some enhancement of this.
I read this during a very sad time in my life, I’d rather have been climbing Everest.
