Turing’s Cathedral by George Dyson
This is a history of the origins of computing from a US and particularly a Princeton IAS persepective. Written by the son of Freeman Dyson who had some role in the events.
It was well written, somewhat (but not too) technical. It contained short biographical information on many of the key players, especially von Neumann, but also Godel, Turing, etc… Also plenty of background information, eg on the origins of the IAS.
Kit gave this to me for my birthday.
